Control and Timing Operator/ Guest Service Host, Summer

The Control and Timing Operator/Guest Service Host, Summer is a varied position working in all roles associated with the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program at Whistler Sliding Centre.  This role rotates through all roles associated with the program including monitoring camera and communication systems to formulate and issue clearances, and must at all times execute track safety protocols.  This temporary full time role requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays and evenings.

Responsibilities: 

Control and Timing Operator

  • Co-ordinate Track usage including slider safety, track clearances, pace of sessions, and interfacing with Guest Services personnel, athletes, coaches and officials
  • Monitor and use control and timing systems including cameras, public address system, intercom, timing, scoreboards, and emergency alarms
  • Timing of and preparing results for public, training, and race sessions
  • Adhere to operations/program, procedures and protocols
  • Assist with protocol implementation and development
  • Regular inspections and maintenance of control and timing systems
  • Control/Timing documentation including run sheets, log book, statistic compilation and incident tracking
  • Consistently monitor all track activity and communicate with track crew to ensure efficient operation(s)
  • Participate wholly as operations staff for WSC public and sport programming
  • Assist operations crew in keeping venue safe, organized and presentable; including building, grounds, road, and track maintenance activities
  • Support team to execute events and facility rentals as needed
  • Foster a strong culture of health and safety; work with Human Resources, and Safety to ensure that all WorkSafeBC and BC Safety Authority requirements are met

  • Assist the team with other duties as assigned or required

Guest Service Host

  • Interact with guests to provide high level of customer service
  • Greet guests and assist them to register for the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program
  • Work on a rotation with the Guest Service team in all positions within the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program
  • Gather and process participant information and waivers
  • Equipment safety inspections, e.g., helmets
  • Lead program safety presentation
  • Maintain radio communications with Control Tower
  • Shuttle/walk participants to start and return
  • Safely unload sled into ready position
  • Safely load guests into sled
  • Recap safety components and final check of guest equipment and comfort level
  • Assist pilots at Finish Dock, and assist guests to unload safely
  • Safely load sled onto truck
  • Process public sliding information requests and bookings by phone and/or email and send confirmations as directed
  • Use a Point of Sale system to process rides and merchandise payments and process end of day cash reconciliation as directed
  • Track merchandise inventory and request reordering from Manager
  • Assist in general up-keep of the Guest Services areas, including the daily set up of equipment and displays indoors and outdoors
  • Proactively continue to evolve the Sport and Guest Services department to exceed the expectations of our guests
  • Safely operate a sled truck to transport sleds on venue
Education/Experience: 
  • High school diploma
  • BC Class 5 driver’s license an asset
  • BC Class 4 unrestricted driver’s license an asset
  • Previous Guest Service experience an asset
  • Knowledge of the Whistler Sliding Centre venue and sliding sports an asset
  • General knowledge and experience of the sports of Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Luge, and high performance training
  • Knowledge of sport timing and racing protocols an asset
  • Proven experience with radio protocol
  • Willingness to become a certified official in all sliding disciplines

Languages:

  • Fluency in English required
Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift 70lbs
